The Conservative Party believes in the value of Life. Health equals life.

New Zealanders love life!

New Zealanders are known for our adventurous enjoyment of the outdoors and in general our desire to maintain a good level of fitness.

We will do all we can to encourage healthy living, the sort that keeps us out of hospitals as much as possible. We will incentivise lifestyles that ease the burden on our health system.

We will discourage self inflicted health issues and require some responsible follow up action from those who willfully contribute to their need for hospital treatment.

New Zealanders respect life!

We value the living, from the womb to the tomb, and we will do all we can to see that life at every stage is respected and cared for to the highest standard.

We will insist that education for our young people is centred around an emphasis on responsible healthy living, rather than so called “safe” irresponsible risk taking. Life is too precious to be gambled with.

We will ensure that parents are notified of any medical intervention in their child’s life.

New Zealanders value life!

Equality is not about dollar value, it is about intrinsic value. The unborn child in the womb is as valuable as the celebrity, the business person or the professional.

The UN Convention on the Rights of a Child 1989 states, “the child, by reason of his physical and mental immaturity, needs special safeguards and protection, including appropriate legal protection, before as well as after birth,” and “every child has the inherent right to life.”

We will do all in our power to ensure the rights of the unborn child are defined in law, and to see that the current law is upheld in relation to abortion procedures, “having full regard for the rights of the unborn child.”

We will oppose Euthanasia in any form (insisting that any proposed change in law should go to referendum), and provide the best palliative care for the elderly and terminally ill.

Euthanasia, like abortion, is in fact a justice issue, not a health issue, because a person’s life is at stake.

Full details on the policy will be released in the coming months.
